Keith, from Narberth was presented with a similar gift from the Society 25 years ago, when he left his role as Society Treasurer to take over the reins.

In response to the presentation, in the presence WWFA Honoury Referee Officer John Gow, Keith was thankful to the Society, not only for recognising his commitment to Pembrokeshire football but also for the sterling work referees do on behalf of the Pembrokeshire League.  He was looking forward to his retirement from the position on the League Council but was happy to continue in the role as Auditor for the Society, a position he has held for 25 years.

Society President Danny Thomas took charge of the meeting, which saw Chris Stapleton continue as Chairman, Jonathan Twigg as Vice Chairman and Assistant Secretary, Dai Badger as Secretary and Ian Baxter as Treasurer.  His opening remarks paid tribute to the commitment members showed to the Society in attending meetings and also officiating across Wales, flying the Society banner with pride. He remarked favourably on the world wide attention brought about by the Boswell brothers officiating the Senior Cup Final and applauded them on their achievements alongside all Cup Final officials on their performance.  He was looking forward to the summer agenda which was in place, where the Society will be playing two games of cricket and also enjoying a golf day.

He emphasised the importance of the forthcoming Centenary Year (2014) and urged all members to support Centenary Committee Chairman Helmut Reinhardt in his efforts. A pre season 8-a-side football competition is to be resurrected under the guise of the Centenary Cup, where he was expecting a number of entries from across South Wales.  Interested clubs were asked to contact the Society on  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. World Cup medal presented to Mervyn Griffiths This World Cup medal was presented to Mervyn Griffiths, football referee at the 1954 World Cup, Switzerland.

Mervyn Griffiths was a native of Abertillery, Monmouthshire. After leaving school he was employed as a schoolteacher in Devon before moving to take up a post at Durham Road, Newport, Monmouthshire, in 1932. In 1934, he began officiating as a referee in the Newport and District League. By 1939 he had been appointed a linesman in the Football League and in 1949 he referred his first F.A. cup tie. He was also to officiate in two Home International matches played that year. Griffiths officiated in both the 1950 and 1954 World Cup championships. Griffiths was a linesman in the final of the World Cup held in Switzerland in 1954 between Hungary and Germany. Hungary were expected to win the championship but a goal by the Hungarian player, Pukas, was disallowed as a result of an offside decision by Griffiths. The score remained at 3-2 and Germany won the match and the World Cup.

FAW WOMENS CUP FINAL CARDIFF CITY V UWIC FAW WOMENS CUP FINAL CARDIFF CITY V UWIC Cardiff City Ladies won the Women's Cup against a spirited UWIC Ladies in Bridgend on Sunday, 18th April.

The holders of the competition retained their Trophy with a 6-0 win at the Brewery Field, Bridgend on a fine afternoon, in terms of quality of football and weather.

The students from UWIC battled well and played their part in a good final, especially during a competitive first-half. Skipper Naomi Clipston looked bright in the opening quarter for the students and Lauren Welsh and Natalie Shenton both impressed, but the strength in depth of the Cardiff squad proved to be too good on the day.

The score probably flattered Cardiff as UWIC battled until the final whistle, but Michelle Adams' team were worthy winners and they remain unbeaten in this competition for an incredible eight seasons.
