UEFA have appointed Welsh Premier officials to games in their club and National competitions.

Last Thursday the Hibernians (Malta) v Spartak Trnava (Slovakia) Europa League game was controlled by Swansea’s Mark Whitby assisted by Gareth Wyn Jones (Bontnewydd) and Martin Roberts (Llangefni) with Swansea’s Dean John as 4th Official.

Later in the month Bryn Markham-Jones from Swansea will travel to either My Pa 47 (Finland) or Fuglafjodur (Iceland) against the Belarus giants Dinamo Minsk. Assisting him will be Llanelli’s Daniel Beckett and Lewiss Edwards (Aberdare) with Rhydyfelin’s Brian James as 4th Official

Our Referee Observers are also in action with Ray Ellingham going to Cluj in Romania for their game with Jagodina from Serbia in the Europa League later this month, whilst Referees’ Manager Rodger Gifford took part in a little bit of history last Wednesday when he was appointed to the first ever UEFA Club match to be played in Gibraltar when Lincoln Red Imps hosted Torshavn from the Faroe Islands in the Champions’ League. Finally, Anglesey's Brian Lawlor has been appointed Referee Observer for FK Skenderbeau (Albania) v Bate Borisov (Belarus) in the Champions League qualifier on July 22nd.

Wales FIFA list of Match Officials for 2014 have been confirmed as follows:

Referees: Lee Evans, Mark Whitby and Bryn Markham-Jones.

Assistant Referees: Daniel Beckett (new), Lewiss Edwards (new), Gareth Wyn Jones, Eddie King, J B Roberts and Phil Thomas.

Futsal Referee: Valentin Ciuplea

Daniel from Llanelli and Lewiss from Aberdare are promoted to the list of Assistant Referees at only 23 years of age, they are two of the youngest officials on the FIFA list throughout the world of refereeing.

Daniel and Lewiss are graduates of the FAW Referee Development scheme,(South Wales & West Wales) and are the first batch of officials to progress to FIFA since Wales joined the UEFA Referee convention.

They have also graduated through the UEFA CORE (Centre of Referee Excellence) Daniel and Lewiss replace Alun Boore and Mark Dyson

We are also delighted that we have a first ever International Futsal Referee with Valentin being appointed to the list.

Let’s hope in the not too distance future Wales can add a female FIFA official.
