The Pembrokeshire Referees Society has had a busy start to 2012 alongside their normal officiating duties.  The January meeting saw a number of guests welcomed to the monthly meeting, when former RAW Chairman Pedr McMullen was presented with a special award for his work for the RAW and previously RAUK.  Making the presentation on behalf of the Society was President and life long friend Danny Thomas, alongside current RAW Treasurer and WWRA representative John Davies of Swansea,  Danny gave suitable eulogy of Pedrs involvement in the world of referring, regaling a number of stories associated to their time officiating together across Wales.

Also present was FAW Councillor and WWFA Secretary Gareth Williams, alongside WWFA Hon Referees Officer John Gow and PAFL Secretary Brian Hawkins, who made certificate presentations to newly qualified referees, after they had completed a recent course, from which four were now to be seen on the pitches of Pembrokeshire every Saturday. The Society encourages anyone interested in becoming a referee to contact PAFL Secretary Brian Hawkins who is in the process of co-ordinating a new referees course.

Following the meeting a seminar took place with representatives from local Clubs on ‘how to make the best use of your Club assistant referee.’  A lively debate took place chaired by Jonathan Twigg, with John Gow reinforcing  the message that a club assistant referee should assist by indicating when the ball is in and out of play only.  All present felt the seminar had been successful and worthwhile, with the concluding comments that the Society Officers would welcome further seminars with club representatives.

February saw the Society finalising the details of their Centenary Year and launching a Centenary 50/50 Club.

The Societies next meeting in March will be incorporated with the WWRA social evening being held at Carmarthen Town AFC.  The evening, on Friday 9th March will kick off at 6pm with a buffet for members present, before being able to watch  the Welsh Premier league fixture between Carmarthen and Port Talbot.
